Ride Protocol

DB2 travels at a usual speed range of 15 to 23 mph.  DB2 stops as a group for mechanical problems and flat tires. There is at least one rest stop, usually two in the summer.  DB2 is NOT a "no drop" ride.  The leaders do their best to maintain group integrity by riding the published speeds and by using re-group points.  Distances and speeds will vary depending on wind, road, and other factors. Check the DB2 forum and follow PBADB2 on Twitter for late-breaking changes due to the weather.

  • 45-55 miles (shorter in the winter)
  • 17 - 17.5 mph average rolling speed for entire ride
  • 15 - 23 mph traveling range

PBA Ride Rules

Pace Line Basics

Large Group Procedures

In the event there are more than 30 riders at the start, DB2 will divide into two groups, DB2a and DB2b.

Start to Rest Stop

Both groups take the same route at the same DB2 pace.  This is NOT a pace-defined division; riders can make that decision at the rest stop. Chris leads DB2a every week.  A volunteer will lead DB2b each week. DB2a goes first.  An approximate 5-minute gap at the start will be maintained to the rest stop.

Rest Stop to Finish

DB2 will divided up into two groups based on pace.  DB2a will go first at a pace at the top end of the DB2 range.  Not a sprint, not a surge, but a steady, safe DB2 tempo back to base.  A rolling list of DB2 leaders will take turns leading this group back to the finish.

DB2b goes second at the established DB2 pace.  Chris will lead this group back to the finish. On occasion, Chris and the volunteer leader will swap groups.

Sweepers

On a voluntary basis, the ride leaders will be asking for sweeper assistance.  Please be prepared to take a turn now and then.
