On Thursday, July 17, long-time PBA member Wayne Cordes passed away after losing his battle with pulmonary disease. Wayne was a staple of the Saturday morning East Side Ride and the Wednesday evening Dinner Ride for as long as most of us can remember, and probably well before that. A Plano resident for 17 years, he would cycle to the ride start at Plano Cycling & Fitness on 18th Street. He served many years on the PBA Board in various capacities and was a strong advocate of cycling. He wasn't out-spoken but rather led by example cycling for fitness and in earlier days commuting to work. We have lost a good friend and a good cycling companion.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church at Parker and Spring Creek on the east side of Hwy 75 at 3 pm on Sunday, July 20. A 30- minute memorial bike ride will be led from the church by his friend Dale Wilson starting at 2 pm. As cycling was a big part of Wayne's life, his family encourages his friends to do this ride and welcomes them to the service in their cycling attire (even if you are not doing the ride). A reception will follow the service. All cyclists are welcome to attend.
Dale Wilson leads the Wayne Cordes Memorial ride just before the service. We did a few slow, quite laps in the area and then headed back to the church. The church insisted that we remain in our cycling attire for the service. We did, and it was a very fitting tribute to Wayne.

Members of the PBA showed up on May 22nd at Children's Medical Center in Dallas to participate in, and support, a kickoff ride and media event for the TX Tough Rally, which will be held in September. TX Tough is a fund raiser for Children's and the club is hoping our members play a big role in helping this great local charity. Pictured here are Marc Mumby, Steve Woodlock, Alan Hasty, Hans Vandongeren, rally organizer Geoff Godsey of TX Tough, and Susie Mumby. Please see the PBA web site for more information on this event.

Want to learn how to ride a pace line? Click on this link Learn how to ride in a paceline for
a good starting point. Then ask some of our experienced riders
how to do it. After that, go out with a small group on quiet
roads and give it a whirl. Just remember, they are called 'pace'
lines because the goal is to keep a constant pace by evenly sharing the
workload.

Did you get GPS for Christmas? Share your rides, routes and adventures with fellow PBA members. Check the member listing of other GPS enabled members that share ride routes. I post our 8:00 rides to the web each week. You can see them here PBA 8:00 Ride Maps. We
also set up a forum to chat, duscuss, and update on the latest and
greatest devices. I think the Garmin series for cycling is the clear
winner, but you be the judge and give us your feedback.
