Sunday ADVENTURE RIDE
This is a social ride. It is not; however, a ride for brand new group riders. If you are successful on the PBA Step-Up Ride, you will be able to ride the Adventure. If you struggle on PBA Step-Up, you are not ready to take on the Adventure Ride YET.
The ride has a large speed variable because it will split in the parking lot based upon what a rider needs on any given Sunday. The last group to roll will always be in the 14-16mph range -- and ride to the slowest rider.
Sunday Adventure is a 25 to 35 mile ride with a different route offered each week. Every week the ride will try out a new route.
The average speed over the total distance is typically between 14-18ish mph depending on the route, weather, and dynamics of the group.
This ride is NOT designed to be taxing on your system and abilities, it is designed to be a comfortable safe recovery ride. The ride splits in the parking lot to allow riders to find their correct pace for their recovery ride. Because we have different speeds rolling, this also allows riders an opportunity to ride with the faster group and fall back if the ride is too taxing. More seasoned riders, can easily recover at a faster pace -- while the rest of us need a slower pace to recover. This should be a nice steady Zone 2 ride.
THIS IS NOT A NOVICE RIDE.
Required minimum skills:
1. Must be able to control your front wheel and keep a straight line while riding.
2. Must be able to comfortably ride a 14 mph average ride.
3. If Step-Up is a struggle -- this ride is not for you.
4. If Step-Up is a comfortable ride (some hard parts and some easy parts) -- you will be ok on this ride.
5. Must be able to go 17-22 miles before a rest stop.
The ride starts and ends at the NE corner of Independence and Legacy, north of Dunkin Donuts. Please park along Independence away from the shops and Dunkin Donuts. Riders are expected to have read the PBA group riding rules (link below).
This is a No Drop Ride, but riders should have a SAG plan should you overestimate your ability, suffer a ride ending mechanical, or just have a bad day.
Since all riders are not able to navigate hills at the same pace, the ride will occasionally “soft-pedal” or pull aside into a parking lot to let riders catch-up and regroup. We will not leave you behind until your SAG plan has been deployed. Join the PBA so you can use the Forum and Ride Logs. We communicate all changes through the Forum and the PBA Facebook Page.
