2014-08-10 Tempo 8/10/14 39.2 15.4 0 Good group of 15 riders all well matched tried the mid pack relay today for turns and it worked great Thanks Mike & Karen for helping with this. We had no confusion and all the Left turns went smoothly. I bonked at the end of the ride and had to cut it short but Mike took the main group on the regular route and got them the extra miles. Jay and Brian went with me and we ended up getting back not much sooner then the other folks. Anyways Another fun PBA day Thanks guys

2014-08-03 Tempo to Mckinney 44.2 16.0 1,181 Another fun Tempo Ride had a good sized group and everybody did great. The Temps were good and almost no wind can't beat that. Thanks everybody for making it another Great PBA Day!

2014-07-27 Sunday Tempo 7-27-14 42.6 15.7 0 Another good ride had a non repairable mech fairly close to the start we were able to get the bike in a semi ride able condition they turned for home with company. Also near the end had another rider struggling a bit Barry and Denise Rode with her back to the start and all were at starbucks for the after ride fun Thanks guys for helping out. All in all another fun PBA day Thanks guys for all the help!

2014-07-20 First of the new slower paced shorter tempo rides 42.5 16.2 0 What another beautiful day to be out on a bike feels like Sept. but it is July. Had a good turn out of well matched riders we kept a steady pace with just one sprint zone. I had a lot of help on the front and a sweeper in the back what more can a ride leader ask for. The speed is a little higher but not much and with low temps and no wind it could of been much higher but we kept it under control. Thanks everybody for another Great PBA day!!

2014-02-16 Tempo 35.1 0.0 0 My first ride in almost 2 months and it was tough but thanks to Juan & Pat I made it through. In a Month or so if I can keep riding more often I might get back up to speed. Thanks guys for another fun PBA Day!

2014-02-16 The Long Road Back Part 2 35.1 0.0 0 Thought I felt much better about this ride. Then I downloaded my data and realized I still suck. Note to the cycling gods...Three weeks of weather delays between rides ain't helping.

2013-12-29 last tempo for this year 40.0 16.5 0 Fun but tough ride just not getting on the bike enough lately Thanks guys for another fun PBA Day

2013-09-08 Sunday Tempo + Commute x 2 58.1 17.8 3,225 I rode out from my house to meet the Tempo ride which allowed me to survey several sections of road three and even four times today. I also stopped by my old house and talked to the old neighbors for a while on the way back. I was surprised by the high mileage upon my return (still no working odometer).

2013-06-02 Tempo 6/2/13 Broken Chain odyssey 52.5 16.7 1,914 Good ride today with lower then avg temps to start and a north wind that was mild compared to days past. Had one long Mech Broken Chain and me being stubborn we waited way too long before calling it quits on the attempted fix. Jay ended up having to call home for a ride sorry bud wish it would have worked. Anyways rest of the ride was uneventful and we all got back to the lot safe and sound. Thanks to all who pulled today and thanks to everybody for a most excellent Ride with My PBA Buds No Better way to spend a Morning!!

2013-05-20 Tempo with a bit of wind 46.0 16.9 1,306 One of those rides where I was almost hoping we would not go but now that it is done I am sure glad that we did. Tough wind at the halfway point and even the cross winds were not fun. We had a small group of just 6 so we broke out the old water tower route. We stayed together on the part going directly into the wind but on Renner with the cross wind well it got a little fast. I was able to hang with the main Group but we had one who dropped after the big first hill. He had said earlier that he knew the way and was ok with riding solo. Thanks all who came out and a big thanks to the pullers on the windy sections. Another fun day on the Bike with my PBA Buds!

2013-05-05 Tempo to prosper 50.5 16.9 1,816 With nnw wind I figured we would head to prosper and maybe get lucky with the wind again today well no such luck. The wind on the way out was much stronger today and it was just brutal getting to the rest stop. We tried some pace lining but I was too tired myself to join in for more then just a short bit. It helped a little but as we almost never do it and the line was pretty ragged. Oh well it was fun trying and it did take our minds off the hard slog north. We lost one rider early on I guess after yesterdays ride the wind today was just too much. We had two others pull off just before the rest stop I guess they needed to get back sooner and did not want the ride west to the stop. The ride home was fun that wind just pushed us along just wish I was not quite so tired and could have really pushed it more on the way back. Thanks to all who helped pull into the wind it was a great help. As always thanks to everybody who came out it was a fun day on the bike With my PBA buds!

2013-04-29 Aborted Tempo ride 45.3 16.3 1,083 Well it seems I'm still not in good enough shape to do a 100 mile weekend with little sleep. This new job is just more physically demanding so I may have to put off Saturday rides for a bit. I did make it long enough to get the folks to Bethany so everybody knew the way back as I slinked off for home. Still mostly fun ride till it was not and for that I have to thank all who showed up you guys rock!

2013-04-21 Tempo for 4/21/13 49.3 17.5 1,675 Another fun ride had a good group of well matched riders with little wind we were able to push the pace pretty good at times. My Avg is a little lower then the lead riders as I skipped the sprint zones. Thanks to all who pulled my sorry butt along it allowed me to finish the ride with everybody together. As always Another fun day on the bike with my PBA Buds!!

2013-04-14 Tempo 4/14/13 44.6 16.9 1,465 Did the old water tower loop with Blondy Jhune rd. It was kind of fun to go back to the old route for a change of pace. Everybody did pretty well and we stuck together most of the way not really breaking into two groups till Independence. Thanks to everybody who took a turn up front that wind on Los Rios was tough. As always another fun day on the bike with my PBA buds!

2013-04-14 Tempo - Lucas + more 63.1 16.5 1,465 Max had a good group for Tempo today. I planned on sitting in and taking it easy after the long ride yesterday, but it didn't work out that way; some how I found myself out front for the first 20 miles, giving it up at the sprint zone on Forest Grove. Then after the rest stop, I ended up out front again as we headed south into the wind. But I employed some of the 'tricks' I learned from our great "lead from the rear" PBAers, and that worked most of the time until we went south on Los Rios. Once we hit Independence, several of us kicked it up a notch and started pulling away. Juan led the charge and the rest of us were just trying to keep up. Approaching SC&C we noticed Max shorted the route somewhere as we were going to finish at 44 miles. Scott gave me the business saying if I was going to ride to 60 (my target for the day), why not make it a metric century (63) to keep a theme with my ride yesterday. At SC&C, I decided to ride more with Juan to make up the miles and reach my new 63 target. I followed Juan into McKinney until I had enough miles for my return to make the metric century. Scott, those last three miles (for your amusement) south into the 22 mph gusts were awful. But as I've heard, on other PBA rides, "What doesn't kill YOU makes ME a better rider." Thanks to everyone for a fun ride and all those that also worked up front.

2013-04-07 Tempo 4/7/13 44.6 17.2 1,395 Good ride we started from the lot with about 15 and grew to 19 after the rest stop picking up folks along the way even one off the back RBM rider. So today I guess I have a RRP of 110% hehe. Everybody stuck together pretty well except for the normal blow up spots just before the break and just before home. The good Thing was we were all together for the into the wind bit on Los Rios. We had one rider off the back on Renner but he knew the way and was ok with coming in on his own. Thanks to all the pullers esp. into the wind you did great on Los Rios keeping the group fairly compact. Thanks to everybody who came out it was another fun day on the bike with my PBA Buds!!!

2013-03-17 Tempo St Patty's day ride 50.5 18.0 1,460 Yes we did the Damn Ride but it turned out pretty nice so I guess it was more of a dam ride. 8 folks showed up and we were all pretty evenly matched. The weather cooperated as we got a few sprinkles but no real rain. The wind also played nice it was pretty much directly out of the south for the first half of the ride and directly west for the second half. I felt much better this week then last I guess not riding in the wind storm yesterday really helped. Thanks to everybody who came along and special thanks to all who pulled. As always Another Fun Day on the bike with my PBA Buds

2013-03-17 Tempo to Grapevine Dam 56.0 0.0 0
Michael Wingfield MAP
2013-03-17 Tempo - Grapevine dam + commute 58.6 17.5 0 Eight of us braved the cloudy skies for Max's "damn ride" (his words) out to Grapevine Dam. Just eight miles out the skies looked ominous and we got just the slightest sprinkle of rain for about two minutes, then all was clear. As we approached the dam, Juan and I took off on an impromptu sprint zone. He pulled through the spillway and then I pulled across the dam - then he handed me my hat as he took off for the last section before the traffic light – but it was a good long fast run. After the rest stop, we had the benefit of the tailwind pushing us home, bringing up the ride average. About five miles from the end, there was flat on Midway, but we were underway again in just six minutes. The ride finished with an 18 average, but I killed my average by doing slow circles in the parking lot after the ride. It was a good crew and a good day for a ride.

2013-03-10 Tempo windy 40.0 15.0 0 One of the most windy rides I have ever done with the wind out of the west it was just crazy 30+ mph gusts had me crawling along at 8 mph uphill into it. I don't think I have had a worse ride in a very long time my fitness is just not where it used to be last summer. This was the first time in over a month that I have gotten to ride both Saturday and Sunday heck in the last couple of weeks I've only ridden like once a week and it really showed today. Thanks to everybody who helped today with pulling and such and I'm sorry I cut it so short but glad I did or I may have needed a ride home. Still as bad as it was a day on the bike with my PBA buds is Better then any day stuck at home! Did an update on my Garmin and it seems to have screwed it up it recorded the info but somehow did not save it so no link

2013-03-10 Tempo - McKinney + commute 61.5 15.3 0 Seven joined Max for a cold Tempo ride at the start and we picked up another rider along the way for a few miles. The delayed start meant the roads were dry, but the winds had increased, with gusts over 30mph. The extreme crosswinds were tricky as we headed north. We gave an impromptu pace line a try in an effort to share the load of balancing the wind, and after a few go rounds, we had a working line that offered some relief from the wind on the up line. Turning east, we picked up a big push and forgot that the wind was blowing, but that was short lived as we turned north again. Max was having a bad day, so he cut the route short and headed to the rest stop. Leaving the rest stop, we had more battles with the headwind and crosswinds as we made our way back. After the ride, Christian and I headed out for 20 additional miles. We first headed west, directly into the wind where we were lucky if we could make 11mph. When we made the turn to head back east, 25+mph was effortless and made for a good rest on the return.

2013-02-24 Tempo 2/24/13 standard route mostly 44.6 16.5 955 Another good Ride the temps were a little cold at the start but it warmed up really fast. The wind was not to bad at the start but picked up a bunch just before the break. The ride up Los Rios was tough with the strong gusting winds and the hills. I'm still a bit out of shape this winter just not getting in the miles I usually do and it shows. Thanks to all who took a turn up front even our hot chick Maggie pulled for about 7 miles. And as always Another Fun day on the bike with my PBA Buds!
Max Bisso MAP
2013-02-10 Tempo late start 47.1 17.2 1,109 Did a late start for the Tempo today figured it would give the roads more time to dry out and it worked pretty well. The bad part is the wind picked up a bit and was stronger then we figured it would be. Had a bit of a mixed group today but everybody played nice and we kept the pace well within the tempo range. Still working on some SW routes and missed the short cut off turn we stopped just a little further down the road and split the group into longer and shorter just 5 of us went short. Thanks to Ivars for some route changes that got us couple extra miles on better roads with less traffic. Also thanks to everybody who pulled I was a wuss and spent almost no time up there myself. As always another Fun day on the bike with my PBA Buds!!

2013-02-10 47.4 17.5 1,176 Power went out at my house overnight and came back on at 11:00. And with wet roads, I decided to ride at 9:00 AM with Max and gang. Nick, Emmons, and Matt made for good company.
Michael Rooney MAP
2013-02-10 BnB ...... No Tempo 62.5 17.2 1,417 I scheduled BnB for 8:00AM knowing there was a 40% chance of rain when I went to bed. The storm was blowing through at 3:00AM and woke me up briefly. When I got out of bed at 6AM, looked out side and saw the roads were drying up. Checked the doppler and which showed the storm had moved East already, so we would ride at 8:00AM. Nick Esposito showed up at 7:55AM and Mike Emmons showed up at 7:59AM. The storm apparently scared everyone else away. We decided to go ride Tempo, since they were leaving at 9AM. We rode over and Mike bought us a coffee at Starbucks while we were waiting. BnB was scheduled to go to Grapevine Dam, while Tempo was planning on Valley Ranch. The group ended up splitting with some going long to Grapevine Dam and the rest going with Max to Valley Ranch.

2013-02-10 Tempo long to Grapevine Dam + commute 59.4 16.7 0 My first PBA ride in almost 3 months. Finally! Good to get out with the gang. Thanks Max! And thanks Nick, Juan, Mike, Mike and others for pulling/leading the long half of the group. 17.3 avg during the ride. Limped home from the finish on tired legs.

2013-02-10 Tempo - Grapevine Dam Extension + commute 66.2 17.0 1,109 The Tempo was headed to Valley Ranch, and we were joined at the start by the BnB crew that had planned to ride to Grapevine dam. When the Tempo route missed the turn from Heron to MacArthur our group split into those who remained on the shorter Tempo route and the eight of us that opted to take the BnB extension on out to the dam. Wind was tough heading west, but once we headed across the dam the wind was no longer an issue and the cruise home was a joy – a good day for a group ride, with both groups!

2013-01-21 Tempo to Mck 45.0 16.8 1,342 With what was suppose to be light ne winds we headed to McKinney on our pretty much normal northern route. It was a bit chilly to start but by the halfway point it warmed up nicely. Just 5 of us today but we all stayed together pretty well and my nefarious plan to stay off the front worked pretty well. Thanks Go to Marty and Danny for spending most of the ride up front. Also Thanks to Annie and Bob for coming along not much of a ride without any riders and Annie kept my CQ from being 0 with her lovely presence. Another fun day on the bike with my PBA buds!

2013-01-20 Mad Max's Tempo to McKinney 44.8 16.7 1,289 Five went out and five returned with a CG of 20%: what could be better? I nominate Max for the smartest guy in the PBA. Every time he found himself on the front, something happened, and the next thing I knew, I was in the front. Hey, hmm, there could be another alternative. Never mind. Let's jsut give credit where credit was due. Danny also did an outstanding job pulling the entire ride and keeping the ride slow so that I could keep up. Good to meet Annie and Bob too. Thanks Max.

2013-01-06 First Tempo of the new year 54.8 16.9 1,345 Had a good Turnout for the first Tempo of 2013 12 folks all pretty evenly matched. I don't think any of us has done to many really hard rides for the last couple weeks well except for Nick. The north wind was tougher then the 10mph rating it really slowed us quite a bit on the way out. I tried to pull for the first few miles and quickly found that I was just not feeling it today. Thanks to Nick for pulling for almost the whole ride it was a life savior and to all the other folks who gave him a hand up there the way north was some tough sledding for sure. Looking at the splits on my Garmin it seems that it had a bit of a hiccup on the 5th one that may explain the big difference between the moving speed and avg. speed. Got back with most of the riders sorry Ben maybe next week! Thanks all for coming out another fun day on the bike with my PBA buds!

2013-01-06 Tempo - McKinney + commute 62.6 16.4 1,345 It was another cold day even with the delayed start, for another dozen riders. It seems there have been several of these "dozen" groups lately – the die hard frosty crews I guess. Slogging north was a chore into the biting cold, and the cross routes were not much better. At least after the rest stop we had some short tailwind sections. Thanks to all those that made pulls, especially on the northbound legs, where wind and chill were brutal. Thanks Max for leading and the map showing me were I was today.

2012-12-30 last Tempo of the year 30.6 16.4 686 Just 4 of us braved the cold late start It was the Marvelous Maggie the Impressive Nick and Magic Mike. We cut it short because of the cold south wind that just cut through us like a knife through butter. Even thou the temp was in the 40's the wind chill was down in the 30's and we were all were pretty cold by the time we finished up. It was a fun ride we kept the pace on the tame side and just enjoyed each others company. Thanks guys for anther fun day on the bike. Also Thanks to all who came out to ride tempo this year it's been a pretty good year with just a few mishaps and none to serious. It's all of you who make riding the bike so much fun here's to many more years to come!!!

2012-12-30 Tempo Tundra - Forest Grove + commute 40.9 16.2 686 Four of us took the opportunity to get cold again on the last 2012 Tundra, I mean Tempo ride. Host Max looked a bit concerned circling the parting lot at the start as Maggie, me, and then Nick (18K+) rolled in one by one. A day that was supposed to be warmer than yesterday did not come to fruition. The clouds rolled in before our noon start blocking any chance of radiant warmth, and the winds were twice as strong as on Saturday. Even with extra coverage on the fingers today, it didn’t take long for the wind to start numbing the digits. The low temps, gray skies, and strong winds had all but Nick commenting on the cold ride, and Max decided to cut the ride short in favor of finding a warmer environment in lieu of the saddle. Even the normally vocal Maggie got silent and later revealed that her face was too cold to Whoo-Hoo. Thanks Max for leading and providing a map to where I went.

2012-12-24 The Max Got us lost for Christmas ride 57.2 17.2 1,119 Well what can I say some Idiot got us lost oops I guess that was "looks around to see if I can blame somebody else nope" ME. We missed the turn for Hebron Parkway because I was looking for Hebron not realizing the road is called Park at the Midway intersection. Anyways after some talking we decided to try and salvage the ride and get back on track even if it added a few 8 miles. We took beltline and it was actually a very nice road but I can see how at another more busy time it would really suck. It all worked out and we crossed the damn after losing a few folks along the way they had to turn back because of either to much time on the bike or to little. We made it back with 6 out of the original 10 folks. Thanks to everybody who helped with the pulling esp. the tough sledding into the wind. As always another fun day on the Bike with my PBA Friends Merry Christmas and Remember I did get you something for Christmas I got you Lost ;)

2012-12-16 Max-less Tempo to Grapevine Dam 49.7 18.1 1,214 Good pretty evenly matched group today. It seemed pretty steady pace. After being bounced from the Bagel ride, Richard did an outstanding job pacing us across the dam. We ran into the Bagel group at our rest stop and lost Richard and some others. Damn! They had more women folk! What were we to do? We ended up a bit over the advertised pace, but I'm sure someone other than me was to blame. Feel better Max. They really need you back. Good to see Marino in the Lot.

2012-12-16 commute+Tempo (Grapevine)+commute 65.1 16.9 1,580 Grapevine Dam - not my favorite direction to go, but the promise of a tailwind return. After yesterday, that would be desireable. Marty led today - Max had apparently maxed out on the mountain bike. Marty did fine, though. My legs were once again toast from the previous day's wind fest and it seemed a little fast at times but I managed alright. But it felt good to leave the group with Paul and take on a slightly less ambitious pace. We stayed on Beltline all the way past 75 before turning off to head back to Paul's shack on less busy roads. At the end, Paul spotted a coyote in his neighborhood - he went off to call animal control while I loaded up and headed home, glad to have half a day to get other things done.

2012-12-16 Tempo - Grapevine Dam + commute 56.8 18.2 1,214 Déjà vu! The ride today was almost a repeat of yesterday, although the names and faces of the riders changed as well as the speed. Marty did a great job stepping in for the IR listed Max (get well soon bud). Also, rather than take his typical "lead from the back" position, Marty spent the entire day up front, except for the dam crossing when he bowed to Richard. We only had a couple instances of 'rider back' which we used to pay homage to the aforementioned Max (sorry Max, I just could not help myself from the jest). Thanks Marty for the fun ride.

2012-12-09 Tempo 12/9/12 49.5 16.8 1,181 This ride tested my any day on the bike is a good day theory but all things considered it was not as bad as it could of been so I guess my theory is still in tact. We started out ok but the roads were kind of wet not sure if it had rained or it was just from the high humidity. As we were coming up Ridgeview by the transfer station we noticed the sheen of oil on the road and just as we started to say something about how it was probably slick we heard the dreaded words riders down. We stopped and turned back to find that 5 riders had gone down then as Juan went back to check on the folks who were down he went down too making it 6 riders down so almost half the ride on the ground covered in a black grease like substance. After checking on everybody we found that we were pretty lucky as there were no broken bones and really very little road rash seems the grease that had made the road slick like ice also kept the riders from getting much road rash. Everybody was ok all the bikes and helmets were ok so we all remounted and were on our way either to continue or go home as 4 of the folks did. The riders involved were Danny, Harley Lebouf, Robert Meyers,Parker Meyers ,Juan Valencia & one other rider who's name i did not get. I called or talked to all the folks who opted to go home to make sure they had made it home and were still ok they had and were all doing well. So That would seem like enough fun for one ride but no we also had a flat on cr324 after our quick ride down 546 we did not know the flat had happened as the rider did not call out mech lucky for them it is our common practice to regroup at the stop sign when he did not show up for a few minutes we sent folks back who found he had the flat. Then to top off the fun the wind had shifted early on us and we fought a strong headwind all the way home.Oh well as I said it could have been much worse the minor injuries could have been worse and we could have left a man stranded out in the country but they were not and we did not and because of that it was a good day. Thanks everybody for another fun day on the bike gotta love the PBA!
Robert Meyers
2012-12-09 Tempo 20.0 0.0 0 Crashed early on the ride with the slick, greasy road by the Plano Transfer station. The moist air made the road like ice! The guy in front of us went down and as we tried to avoid more carnage my son and i went down. His first ever crash! Had to happen eventually. Still soar but all in one piece. Be careful with that road!! Thanks to all for your support!
Michael Wingfield MAP
2012-12-09 Tempo- Lake Lavon + commute 55.4 17.1 1,181 Wet roads in the morning proved treacherous for six of the 14 riders about seven miles into the ride as we passed the solid waste transfer station on Ridgeview just before Custer. I had just commented to Max that the road had a glaze as we rounded the turn in front of the waste station when we heard the call from behind. Evidently the road was so slippery that road-rash was kept to a minimum as the riders slid on the pavement. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries, but four riders opted to head for home while two others continued. The rest of the trip to the rest stop was uneventful as the roads began to dry. After leaving the rest stop we had another long pause as one rider suffered a flat tire. Once on the road again, we battled the winds all the way back. I believe the actual ride came in at 49.8 miles with a 17.5 average. All things considered, it was a fun ride with the Tempo crew.

2012-12-02 Tempo 12/2/12 50.4 17.6 1,109 Is it really December sure does not feel like with temps of almost 70 at the start. Good group of riders today we got off to a fast start a little to fast for one rider who broke off early sorry about that. That's what happens when you start with a mostly tailwind we had an over 18 Avg. by the time we hit the country but it dropped to an even 18 by the rest stop. By the time we got to Renner it was down to 17.4 but we were able to bring up a bit on Renner and esp. on independence with the strong tail wind. Had one minor problem on Renner when an ambulance came up behind us. We pulled over to the side and stopped but maybe a little too quickly as mike took a spill into the grass. It happened so fast I never even saw it he was back up and riding off before I could even get clipped back in myself. Anyways Thanks to all who took a turn up front it is greatly appreciated. Another great day on the bike With my PBA Buds Thanks guys for coming out. On a personal Note this ride put me over my goal for the year 6k miles This makes 4 years over 6k for me hoping for many more!!

2012-12-02 Tempo + commute 60.5 16.4 1,527 After a very tough 216k the day before, my legs were toast. Tempo seemed the ticket and an opportunity to get Paul out on a club ride. We rode up - easy pace aided by a strong tailwind and took on one of Max's easier routes. Fortunately, I was still able to hang on as I made sure to shift to the small ring on every hill. Fortunately Max took the group down to Renner for the return to SC&C. Max tried to egg me on to take a pull into the wind as we left the rest stop. I refused - my legs really were toast. Later, going down Dublin, I did get out front for awhile, but I had no endurance for it. Paul and I were glad to be escorted by the group to Renner - less headwind to endure on our own as we split off at Telecom to head back to his shack.

2012-12-02 Tempo - Lucas + commute 57.4 17.3 1,109 Today was another beautiful day to be on the bike. Max changed up the normal Tempo route just a little adding some miles at the beginning and at the end. The southwest winds gave us a push on the first half of the ride and the speeds were up a bit by the time we reached the rest stop. That meant the winds were brutal on the southern and western legs of the route. Luckily, many of us took our turns up front to share the work. Today, there was no "go long" option as the return route took everyone to Renner for those typically optional miles. Good weather and good friends made this another enjoyable PBA ride. Thanks Max for the map showing me where I went today.

2012-11-25 Tempo 546 route 48.1 17.1 1,175 Did a mostly E/W route with just shorter Directly S bits but a couple nice longer N runs go figure hehe. We all mostly hung together but had a couple folks struggling Luckily they knew the way and were able to come in together. Thanks to everybody who took a turn up front I was not feeling great so only did a short stint at the start then fell back for the remainder of the ride. Even though I was not feeling great a bad day on the bike is better then a good day off of it. Thanks everybody for coming out to play gotta love the PBA
